A main attraction on Cape Panwa in Phuket is the Phuket Aquarium. Established in 1938 as part of the Phuket Marine Biological Center (PMBC), the Aquarium has more than 30 freshwater and saltwater tanks with a representative variety of sea life, including sharks, eels, rays, and fish from the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Every Saturday and Sunday morning at 11:00 visitors can observe feeding time. The centerpiece of the Aquarium is a large tank with a tunnel through its center, giving visitors the unique experience of being surrounded by an outstanding variety of sea life. At the end of the tunnel a 110 gallon tank inhabited by eight massive cod (the size of an average man) awaits.

Phuket Aquarium underwent major renovation between 2002-2004. On December 26, 2004, just prior to re-opening, a devastating tsunami hit the area causing significant damage to the aquarium infrastructure. Following repair the aquarium opened again in April 2005, and as part of the repair a Science and Nature trail was constructed, passing a turtle habitat and connecting the exhibits with PMBC research centers and the coast. The Phuket Monkey School is open daily except Fridays. Monkeys pick cocoanuts, play basketball, ride tricycles, dive, exercise and count during three 30 minute shows. Guests feed bananas to the monkeys following the show, with wonderful tourist photo opportunities.
