Rawai Beach, located at the southern tip of the island of Phuket, Thailand, is a lovely crescent of golden sand nestled between rocky promontories and flanked by palm trees. Phuket is the largest Thai island, about 20 x 50 km, on the west coast of the Malay Peninsula. Rawai is most noted for the scenery and seafood restaurants.
Beach vendors cook and sell fresh seafood at small booths. A meal on the beach of fish, prawns, and crab with noodles or “stinky” rice is a great plan for an afternoon trip to Rawai. Most vendors speak some English, but since one can simply point to any choice, ordering is simple. Select from colorful displays of seafood, fruits, vegetables and nuts. Eat at casual tables beneath the trees, or take a rattan mat to the beach to recline.
