The Elephant Friendly Project

The Elephant Friendly Project provides volunteer with a great experience opportunity to work and get a basic understanding of the Thailand mahout and the elephants relationship with their Elephant Camp. The volunteer will be paired up with an elephant and its mahout for the entire stay. You will not only learn how to ride your elephant but also how to care for it. During your stay you will build up a bond with your elephant. You can learn about the life of the mahouts and will become very close with their community/family, joining in with various communal activities.

The Elephant Friendly Project has been developed in order to help the elephants and mahouts who live at this park. By means of creating jobs and providing financial support we hope that they can stay together at the camp forever and may have the opportunity for an easy and pleasant future.

About The camp

The project is situated at an Elephant camp in a very quiet area outside Pattaya city. It is cut off from the roads so that the elephants have a spacious area where they can eat, bathe and relax. Currently there are about 7 domestic elephants living here together with their mahouts. The elephants here are treated like friends and have been trained well by their mahouts. The elephants go for short walks with tourists that visit the park, who in this way, can financially support the mahouts and the elephants. Eco Explorer has partnered with the park and in addition, volunteers stay here as well to help with the project.

You will stay in a traditional mahout hut. You will receive clean bedding to sleep on. If you have a sleeping bag you may want to bring it to sleep in. We will provide you with a mosquito net and a fan. At the moment the camp is being developed. The bathroom consists of a flushing toilet. There is a cold shower, cold clean water is available to wash yourself with.

Food

At volunteer hut mahout staff will take very good care of you. You will be served a variety of Thai local dishes 3 times a day.
