Bangkok River Taxis

We found one of the smoothest ways to access the huge chunks of the city not covered by the Skytrain or MRT/subway was to hop on the frequent river taxis running up and down from the Central station in Silom, past Riverside where the posh hotels and restaurants are, up to Chinatown, the Royal Palace and Wat Pho and then on to Banghlampu and Khao San road, the backpackers area.

A single on the boats just costs 13 baht regardless of the distance and neatly cuts out hours of idling in fumes in a tuk tuk or taxi as you try to negotiate rush hour traffic, but comes with the advantage of great views and a lovely breeze to cool you off after the last bout of exploring, shopping and sightseeing
